Mavin started working alongside American-born musician / producer Snax in his group Manhooker. This led to the duo forming a production and songwriting duo, BonomoLeMagass; one of the first results being 'Making Music.' Snax recalls, 'We were writing tunes for other people in mind, but Mavin brought 'Music' to the table and insisted that this jam was for his album!' Reflecting on the vibe they create together, Mavin adds, 'Snax dared me to be more open and in-your-face with my pop songwriting, plus to go into the whole new dimension of funk, soul and r&b.' Backed up by Snax's guitar and keys, Mavin's voice expounds on the joys of creation. Add additional vocal assistance from French songstress Marie-Ève Desjardins and American soul singer Adam Joseph, and the party was complete.
'Making Music' gets a serious remix workout. First up is Brazilian super producer and good friend Vermelho, serving up 80's synth feels that'll keep the roller skates turning. Swedish mix masters Per QX and Elias Bravo got next, kicking it up a notch with their signature in-your-face sound. Then BonomoLeMagass return, breaking it down with their 'Dungeon Dub', surely to heat up the more discerning (and sleazier) dance floors.
'Werq' sees Mavin collaborating with Berlin-based Canadian female powerhouse Deepa Lazercat. The inspiration for 'Werq' lies in the syncopated beat structures of the Freestyle/Boogie/Miami Bass genre from the early/mid 80's, full of TR-808 kick drum and heavy synth bass. Close your eyes and you almost feel yourself catapulted straight to Fort Lauderdale! The lyrics of 'Werq' focus on that green eyed monster called jealousy, and is loaded with freaky, coy and sassy word-play.
Two classic house remixes, the '1989 Vocal Mix' and 'Deeper Dub,' are created by Lazercat herself, reminiscent of Larry Heard/Fingers Inc., Sterling Void and Marshall Jefferson. Lazercat proves her expertise in several genres; effortlessly moving between styles in tandem Mavin's voice and song-structure.
