The electronic master reimagines his career on a greatest-hits album with a difference. Segued together so that the old blends seamlessly with the new, and live recordings mesh with studio tracks, Essential Recollection creates a seamless flow of moods. Delicately unwinding melodies from "Oxygene" bookend a joyful live take on "Arpegiateur," while danceable excerpts from "Chronologie" and "Equinoxe" represent Jarre's most upbeat side. The finale section of "Rendez-Vous," written for the late astronaut Ron McNair, brings the piece to a heroic conclusion.
