Peter Ehwald - Septuor de grand matin (2019)

The saxophonist and composer Peter Ehwald wrote the music for Le Septuor de Grand Matin in the blue light early in the morning. The composition is the result of alert concentration and peaceful calm before the storm of everyday obligations. Before that, Peter Ehwald worked intensively on methodological composition processes, which gave rise to the nine pieces for Le Septuor de Grand Matin. Oscillating between the blue in "the Wee Hours of the Morning" of jazz and the Schönberg compositional principle of variation, the listeners are to be placed in a dreamlike state of clear serenity. Peter Ehwald's composition contains musical structures of European music from the early 20th century, as well as hints of freedom and experimentation in jazz from the 1970s. He has won internationally renowned musicians for the unusual line-up of Le Septuor de Grand Matin (in German for "Septet of the Early Morning") who are able to weave compositional guidelines into rhythmic chamber music. Le Septuor de Grand Matin was released on CD in January 2019 on the Jazzwerkstatt Berlin label. A five-minute music film by Ilya Lorenz Barrett was published as an independent publication.
